Funky Flowers

I made these flowers before leaving for the Symbiosis Gathering festival where I worked for the clothing company ONANYA and sold and traded my flowers and patches. There are about 15 more I didn't post here.
Funky fun bright warm. Earring from my Aunt Vikki's broken jewelry box. Fabric from Ivy.
Swirly dotty center from the Berkeley flea market. Peacock and space inspired.
Googly space cadet raver clown flowers.
Earthy shell princess. Usnea from the forest. Shell from Hawaii. Fabric from a shirt found on the street in Portland.
Sophisticated Earth flower nest collection. With old men's shirt fabric, Bay Laurel acorns and usnea.

I traded the left flower with Betsy. It looked fantastic with her outfit. Sorry, no photo. I adopted the right one for myself. The spiral shell sucked me right in.

Fast Random Spontaneous Cute

I made these in about ten minutes while waiting to leave for the Lightning in a Bottle festival. I had inspiration from a woman named Betsy Finkelhoo, who I met at Symbiosis Gathering the week before.  I was inspired by her use of random bits and scraps, so I made these out of the junk on the bottom of my craft bins. I wanted texture, color, pattern and little stories in each piece. The backs are fixed with felt securing a pin and a hair clip.
Scrap stories include lichen gathered from the forest, ribbon from a free pile, green and black woven napkin from Peru once belonging to my Great Grandmother, pink lace from old panties.
Scraps here include lichen gathered from Faeryworlds festival in Eugene, OR, shirt scraps from my good friend Zoe, brown lace from Lia's skirt, and scraps salvaged from my friend Ivy's sewing room floor.
Yellow lace from panties, scraps from Ivy, pieces cut from free pile scores, tassels from a fabric sample booklet purchased in Portland for $1.

Patch Flowers

Circles, endless circles. I have hundreds of them I cut out of fabric sample books to create my flowers. I wanted to portray a flower of life design by laying the circles over each other and stitching around them. These are my first few samples.

This is a simple way to create a patches for anything, like clothing, a quilt or a pillow.

Healing Art

The last few days the highs and lows of the world feel like they've been swirling within my body, mind and spirit. A fiery creative energy has been beckoning me from my heart, telling me to make a series of healing altar collages to address parts of my life that need healing and activation.

I have been collecting all sorts of materials for the last seven years. I saved tiny fabric scraps of the most delicious textures and colors, broken and tacky jewelry, magazine clippings dating back to my high school days, little shells, stones, tiny plastic animals. After years of housing these promising treasures, storing and moving them, justifying to myself and others that someday they'd be turned into glorious art, yesterday I surrendered to my internal crafty voice. It told me that each element I touched, was completely meant for a purpose: To manifest healing and release through its presence, through my art. Love, gratitude and trust in my past self came pouring from me while I worked. I thanked myself and each piece I used for it's energy and inspiration to make this wonderful art.

I created three collages yesterday. One for spiritual activation, astral guidance, transformation and healing. One for abundance, prosperity, and creativity. And one for passion, magic, sensual metamorphosis, courage and acceptance.

There is so much more to say about each piece, which I may add later. For now, please enjoy the photos.

Each piece is made on a cardboard box top (17'' x 13'') Later I'd like to describe the story of each treasure I used, as they all have interesting ones and it's just perfect that they all ended up where they are. It's as if someone planned for all this to happen....

Flower Feather Fascinators

Feathers and fabric flowers fascinate me. Especially on a hat or in hair. I adore them on others and want to wear one of my own. I wouldn't buy such a thing, so I made a few of my own in my crafty space. I am hoping to get good at making them to sell and give as gifts.

For the blue one, I collected some feathers outside and used some from the store. One is a tail feather from a Steller's jay found in the mountains of California. The feathers are hot glued to felt. Black lace edging is cut to stick out sides. Fabric flowers are cut from my Moma's quilt scraps and some old jeans. Sewn with machine in a random and mistake ridden manner of course. Well, I tried this is what I get, and I like it. This one goes on my hat now.
