Flower Feather Fascinators

Feathers and fabric flowers fascinate me. Especially on a hat or in hair. I adore them on others and want to wear one of my own. I wouldn't buy such a thing, so I made a few of my own in my crafty space. I am hoping to get good at making them to sell and give as gifts.

For the blue one, I collected some feathers outside and used some from the store. One is a tail feather from a Steller's jay found in the mountains of California. The feathers are hot glued to felt. Black lace edging is cut to stick out sides. Fabric flowers are cut from my Moma's quilt scraps and some old jeans. Sewn with machine in a random and mistake ridden manner of course. Well, I tried this is what I get, and I like it. This one goes on my hat now.

Little Furry Burning Hood

I made this functional two-in-one piece for Burning Man this year. It is a reversible mini hooded shrug made with tie dyed faux fur and silky black satin for the lining. Having the satin on the inside feels amazing on my shoulders and around my face, and the fur looks great on the outside. It also picks up black light glow with the white hues. This piece has a shadowy wolf-like effect that I love. My goal was to create something furry with a massive hood that is wearable in the desert for keeping warm at night as well as cool enough for an evening of aerobic dancing; one of my favorite things to do while out there. When I wore this, I felt protected, like a native princess, hidden in the center of a pack of loyal wolves....

To make it, I simply cut out a half circle for the shawl part, sewed together the lining & fur and added a closure. For the hood, I traced a hood from a sweatshirt and made it bigger in every way. The pieces have sturdy snap buttons sewn on for removal of the hood. The hood also snaps onto a jacket with snaps as well.
